Learning and Development

Learning should be fun

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances.

A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.

Little Walkers Nurseries follow The Early Years Foundation Stage while your child/children are within our care. The framework sets out the standards that we as practitioners must provide to guarantee that children learn and develop to the best of their ability.

We provide healthy and safe nurseries that promote teaching and learning to give children a range of skills, knowledge and the correct foundations to ensure children’s “school readiness” and for their future.

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The Framework has seven areas of learning and development which will shape educational programmes within our settings.

All seven areas of learning and development are vital however three areas are particularly essential for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and for them to thrive. These areas are called “prime areas” and consist of:

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The other areas of learning are called “specific areas” which we should also support children. The specific areas are:

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design
